Carbohydrate Love

There's a small French bakery called, The Ovens of France, a few miles north of where I live. I just started to go there after wondering for years if it was any good. I tried a Cinnamon bun and it was glorious. It wasn't too sweet. Great texture, not mushy or too flakey, either. The past two times I've been there, they've been out of the CBs to my utter disspointment. Today I opted for an almond/chocolate croissant. Normally I'm not big on almond pasteries, but it looked good.

When I got home, I took it out of its white paper bag and was shocked at how heavy it was. It must weigh about a POUND. It's large and has many strange lumps and folds of pastry. It's golden and crispy on the outside, but moist and SWEET on the inside. YUMMY! After a few bites I hit the chocolate mother-load! Wow! What a combination of flavor and really GOOD chocolate to boot. This is certainly something to be savored with a cup of darjeeling tea (which I am doing as I write this).

Thank GOD for pasteries. I know this one must have about 2 sticks of butter in it, but it's worth it. I guess I'll skip eating for the rest of the day...yeah right.

Gotta go..need another bite of croissant.
